In Step with Fate

Today’s meditation was a ten minute EFT tapping session using The Tapping Solution Daily Guidance card pictured with my tarot card of the day, and the tapping guidance/affirmations provided on the back of the card.

Linestrider Tarot - Three of Wands and The Tapping Solution's Daily Guidance Cards@FatMumSlim August #FMSPAD Challenge
Prompt for August 20th : Symmetry | #FMS_SYMMETRY25
Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Three of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of the first active step in a journey, progress towards a goal, and the seizing of opportunities.

You know how sometimes when you embark on a project things quickly disintegrate into a clusterfuck, and other times things just smoothly fall into place? I used to think that enough planning and prep could make any endeavor as smooth and seamless as the latter scenarios.

It turns out though? That’s not true. Sometimes no amount of planning or prep can change that something’s not meant to be. Sometimes things fall apart because it’s just not meant for you, and other times the timing is off, so it’s not meant for you at the moment.

What I found is that when things go smoothly and “fall into place”? It’s a dance in symmetry between our own determination, the right timing, and the endeavor being aligned with where we are on our path. This symmetry creates that smooth “flow” that allows everything to move together into position.

Today’s card is a reminder that when things don’t go well or fall apart, there’s more play than our own performance. Don’t put the full weight of blame on yourself or beat yourself up. Consider, instead, that there might be something better or more suited for you just on the horizon, and if you’d succeeded in this current endeavor, you might have ended up missing out on that better future thing that’s coming.

@empressofthenightslight Roll the Tarot August Challenge
Roll : 1  Prompt : Three cards for my current losses.

Higher Self Oracle ReadingFreedom – There are so many responsibilities currently on your plate that it makes it impossible to feel like you have any freedom of your own. Any small amount of free time that you’re able to scrape away for yourself ends up overtaken by thoughts of what needs to be done next, and guilt that you’re not doing it.

Go With the Flow – With anxiety over the current situation in the business rising right now, it’s extremely hard to wait, even when that’s exactly what you need to do. You can’t do anything until you have more information, and once you have information you’ll be able to act accordingly and go with the flow. Until then, these moments of stagnancy are a struggle for you.

Take the First Step – As mentioned above, at this moment, movement is restricted, and there is very little that you can do about it. This makes taking even the first step impossible at the moment, and you’re struggling under the restraint this causes for you.

Dried Rhododendron Leaf for Fostering Confidence
Serpentine Dragon to Bolster Heart and Emotions
Selenite for Purification and drawing in Positive Energy

Le Tarot Villeneuve's Magician, Animal Tarot's Ten of Swords, Linestrider Tarot's Seven of Swords, and Little Otter's Mindful Kids Emotion Cards

May 28 – Mental Health Card of the Day

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long, and one of the #DailyCalm sessions in the @Calm app.

•    •    •    ◈    •    🌷    •    ◈    •    •    •

Today’s draw is the Magician (le Bateleur) card, which is traditionally a representation of capability, potential, resourcefulness, action, and manifestation. This often translates into themes having to do with being in possession of all of the skills, abilities, and tools necessary to reach one’s goals and accomplish one’s ends. It’s about being capable and skilled, resourceful and gifted with what is needed to get the job done.

Shower thoughts this morning had me thinking about a magazine article I read recently that proposed that our perception of time speeds up when we lack novel and/or memorable experiences used to differentiate our hours and days. I thought this was a really strange theory, as in my observation  time actually seems to pass more quickly as we become more aware of our mortality and how little time we actually have left. I feel this might be why time feels like it gets faster as we get older.  We see our mortality more clearly and it causes us to value our time left more, and thus the perception becomes that it is flitting away too quickly.  Instead, in my experience, depression, pain, and/or misery  cause time to crawl by, while “time flies” when we’re having fun.

These thoughts (which are currently written all over the walls of my shower in shower crayon) make me think that, at least in part, it’s up to us how we perceive time.  The Magician, then encourages us to experiment by using the tools we’ve learned over years of experience to find what works best for us to create a sense of time we’ll be happy with, and fill that time with memorable moments.

May 29 – Mental Health Card of the Day

Today’s meditation was skipped.

•    •    •    ◈    •    🌷    •    ◈    •    •    •

Today’s draw is the Ten of Swords, which is traditionally a representation long journeys coming to an end, painful endings, lessons learned the hard way, deep wounds, and sometimes can indicate loss or betrayal.

Right, so… I am becoming/have become more susceptible to guilt. The thing is? I’m not entirely sure how this happened. I didn’t used to be susceptible to guilt, but somewhere along the line in the past decade or so it’s begun to actually have an influence.

Once upon a time, guilt trips by others just made me mad. They triggered my anger, probably as a defense mechanism, and that in turn turned off my ability to give a damn.

Maybe it’s because, as I search for understanding of my emotions and make progress on my healing past wounds, I’m more open and vulnerable now. That defense mechanism just doesn’t trigger like it used to, though, and i find myself becoming susceptible to guilt trips by those I care for where I wasn’t before.

I definitely am not a fan of this development, even if the defense mechanism is still there, just latent and only kicking in when I’ve reached the end of my tolerance and had enough.

The combination of the Guilty Dog and the Ten of Swords makes me wonder… is there a way to fine tune this defense mechanism so that I’m saying “stick a fork in me; I’m done” sooner? I would like to detach from guilt sooner… or is it just one of those things that goes part and parcel with allowing yourself to care about people?

May 30 – Mental Health Card of the Day

Today’s meditation was thirteen minutes long, and was self guided meditation based off a #DailyCalm session I did recently titled “Anxiety” in the @Calm app. (Because I had a severe anxiety attack, and I needed a little help to reign things in.)

•    •    •    ◈    •    🌷    •    ◈    •    •    •

Today’s draw is the Seven of Swords, which is traditionally a representation of strategic thinking, “sneaky shit”, or getting away with something. It can also often be about taking only what one can carry.

Disappointment seems to come far too easily these days. Whether it’s witnessing the truth in Harvey Danger’s “only stupid people are breeding” lyrics, or the decline of work ethic that took a sharper than normal dip during the pandemic (ref: the WPA in the 1930s and how it was preferred by the majority of society at the time over public assistance because it “maintained self-respect, reinforced the work ethic, and kept skills sharp”), and all around wide spread choices to act without consideration of consequences.

Do I sound like an old curmudgeon yet?

The other day I watched someone walk out of a store with a cart full of junk without paying, and yet when I reported this to security? I was the one looked at as an inconvenience.

I could see a policy of letting it go if it was say… food, or children’s clothes. But electronics and other clearly unnecessary luxury crap? C’mon.

The cards for today reflect this event I witnessed and the feelings expressed above that arose from it. These cards are a reminder to not let the morons, the entitled, and the corrupted get you down. Yes, they’re out there and they’re breeding. That just means it’s that much more important to seek out and connect with those that share your own values. They’re out there too, and can help in putting a little faith back in your perceptions of humanity as a whole.

You Do You

Today’s meditation was a bit spotty, although I did give it a go.  It was intended to be a quiet breathing exercise turned into an on-again-off-again nap sort of thing.  I gave up after the second doze off and just let myself sleep. Clearly, I needed it.

Linestrider Tarot and Less Anxiety Affirmation CardsToday’s draw is the Five of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of conflict over one’s principles, values, or those things that we truly believe in and stand behind. This type of conflict often happens at work when collaborative efforts hit creative differences, but it is not the only area of life in which these types of conflict can arise by any means.

The Five of Wands is all about standing strong and personal perspective clashing with the perspectives of others.  Combined with the affirmation card today, what I see in the clash demonstrated in the imagery of today’s card is a reminder about where our sense of self-value comes from.

Today’s cards are a reminder not to let other people’s judgments of you break you down. Stand strong. They have their feelings and perspectives, their values and goals… and you have yours. Judge yourself on your own perspectives and values instead of through the eyes of others.

: A reminder of how I can remain in the moment this week.

Auset Gypsy TarotReading Summary: Leave behind (Six of Swords) impatience (Queen of Wands), as it only disappoints (Three of Swords).

Take Away:  When we are eager to follow our interests and our pursuits, invested and engaged in the things we love or helping others in engaging in their own passions, sometimes it feels like there’s never enough time to get everything done we want to do.

This feeling is an illusion created by our eagerness.  To truly be in the moment, to enjoy the moment, it’s important to let go of where we’re going and our expectations.  Only then can we truly enjoy being in the moment.   So set your ambition and your expectations aside and allow yourself to linger and savor instead.

Question: Is now a good time to rehire a housekeeper?

Linestrider TarotReading Summary: Make sure she’s been vaccinated (The Moon Rx) to clear up any worries in that area.

She can help you find a happier place with your emotions, because you judge your “dirty house” too harshly. (This is seen in the color coordination between the mask in Judgment and the subconscious lobster in The Moon. This connects to the crown that the Queen of Cups wears, indicating that these judgments are all about you and in your head.)

A theme of blue spread throughout. In the cards indicating one’s results (the Queen of Cups and Judgement), the shades of blue lie at the bottom of the card. These blue tones stink slowly from the main focus in The Moon card, to central background in the Queen of Cups, to the bottom of the card in Judgment. This indicates that ensuring she is vaccinated will take away any worries that are left concerning rehiring her at this time.

Take Away: On the 27th I will be fully vaccinated (two weeks will have passed since my second shot). This is the milestone I have been waiting for in order to get a housekeeper back in here on a regular basis. Now I just have to make sure that she is vaccinated as well, and then all is good.

Aside from taking a nap today, I also got the challenge made for next month and a few other things done.  It really feels as if it lifted a weight off of my shoulders by getting these things done and catching up on my blog posts.

It’s More Fun Together

Today’s meditation was ten minutes long and was a full body scan much like yesterdays, that focused on energy rather than physical sensation.  It was, essentially, energy play where I took my energy in a rippled wave through my body from head to toes and back up again.  Powerful waves at first moving from head to toe and back again, like water sloshing back and forth in a tub.  Slowly, the waves then slowed and eased until they were smaller and smaller, and then finally settled into a still and calm pool.

Herbal Tarot - Three of Cups - TrilliumToday’s draw is the Three of Cups, which traditionally is interpreted as a time of coming together, celebration, emotional bonding with others, friendship, and positive collaboration with others.  It can also represent a “third wheel” type of energy or emotion.

I barely noticed the Trillium in the imagery of this card today.  Instead, my focus was drawn to the three women and the fact that their feet are bare and they each wear a dress in a different jewel-tone color.

The bare feet speak to me of vulnerability in this card, and the different colored dresses communicate a sense of diversity. This speaks to me of the energy of collaboration that happens between very different people, and how satisfying it can be when each person contributes their own unique flair to a project… making it truly collaborative and something that could not be done solo or by any others but those personally involved.

Sometimes I forget that I’m not alone and I can lean on others to help me.  I forget that in that help that’s given?  Fun can be had and it becomes more than work but a celebration.  I need to remember this more often and allow others in to help me instead of thinking I have to do it all myself.

Linestrider Tarot

Reading Summary: Put some enthusiasm (Knight of Wands) into reclaiming your joy (The Sun) and learn a better way of thinking about things and communicating with yourself (Page of Swords).

Side Note: Just as an aside… The Knight of Wands is the only card in this entire deck that I do not like. I just cannot un-see the stubby penis riding a horse that I saw when I first looked at this card for the first time.

Take Away:  The message here is not just about encouraging growth, but embracing it.  It’s about remembering that as I move forward in the changes I’m making, I need to actively search for and participate in the things that bring me joy.  Savor them and enjoy them instead of disregarding them or avoiding them.

How can I motivate myself to get my ass moving after meditation and get on with my day?

Sawyer's Path TarotReading Summary: The Queen of Swords and the Four of Swords have the same face… they are the same person and the same color scheme carries between the two cards including the background clouds.  Together they indicate that this change in my routine is new but not negative, and I need to take the time to wrap my mind around the fact that it’s good.

The outlier card in this reading is the center card.  It does not match or coincide with the other two in any way.  This discordance with the other cards indicates that if I follow the path my question is asking about, it’s not going to go well. It will create more hardship and cause a delay in getting where I want to go.

Take Away:  Don’t. You need this time of rest and recovery. As much as you want to get more done and fit more into your day… You need to understand that sometimes it’s okay to take a little time for yourself. That lounging about you’re doing is doing you good.

Question: How can I improve upon my self care?

Tarot of Metamorphosis

Reading Summary: It’s time to stop dragging my feet (Knight of Pentacles) upon my chosen path to instilling more happiness (Six of Cups) and joy in my life (The Sun).

There is a theme here in the imagery itself that speaks of getting back to nature. A transition from being trapped within the grip of the unnatural and material to finding pleasure in fostering nature’s growth to wallowing within nature’s embrace.

Take Away:  Between the theme seen in the cards and the initial interpretation of them, I am being encouraged to spend more time outside. Both in spending time in my garden on the balcony as well as hiking within the forests I love. More of both is needed in my self care routine.

New Moon in Cancer – June 2020

New Moon in Cancer 2020 Tarot Spread

Yesterday was the new moon, and like all new moons and full moons, I did a spread aligned to the moon’s current themes as a part of my recognition of the moon’s cycle and influences upon us.  Today’s spread is brought to you by Ethony‘s Tarot By the Moon series.

1. How can I feed my soul during this moon cycle?

Knight of Pentacles – Keep in mind that the things worth having take time.  Foster patience in your expectations and in your actions as well.  It’s okay to take your time and take things at a slower pace right now.

2. What have I been hiding that needs to come forward?

Ten of Swords – I’m hurting myself with the expectations that I put upon myself.  My inner critic is far more vicious that I’ve been willing to admit to, and it’s becoming a detriment to my well-being. The blood drawn creates a perpetual cycle of exhaustion.

3. What needs to be tackled head-on?

Hierophant – Instead of focusing on the nebulous voice in my head that I can’t pin down, focus on what you can control and what you can do for yourself and others.  Don’t forget that the teacher is also a student.

The shield on the bird’s breast looks too big and too heavy.  It might be a good idea to take a look at all that you’ve taken on and do a little pruning, or take a break so that shield doesn’t feel quite so unwieldy.

4. How can I improve my relationships at this time?

Ace of Swords  – Share my thoughts and ideas instead of keeping them to myself.  Communicate what’s going on with me.  It’s okay to open up with those that you love and trust.

Slow and Steady Steps

Today’s meditation was not timed, because I kind of lost track of the timer.  That said, I would estimate that it was at least ten minutes.  I took the little bit of focus I had from yesterday, and repeated it… without the harp strings this time.  In other words, as I did my piriformis stretches, I meditated on the growth of a plant from seed to adulthood.  Like last time, this was very enjoyable for me and thus how I ended up losing track of time.  The only reason I know it was at least ten minutes is because my hip flexors were very limber and well stretched at the end.

Herbal Tarot - Ace of Pentacles - Whole GrainsToday’s draw is the Ace of Pentacles, which is traditionally interpreted as the seed of a new beginning or opportunity in relation to finances, resources, health, or the physical world.

What stood out to me the strongest in the imagery of this card today is the stone wall with arched entrance that stretches through the background.   What I see in that wall is not just a new beginning, but a “recasting” of sorts.  A seed comes from a flower that has bloomed and faded, and thus this seed comes from a path that has passed and is now behind you. It is not immaculate conception, but rather reincarnation as you pass through the archway and into a new phase… a new cycle.   A new path created from the tail of the old one.

In the pentacles suit, this speaks to me of my endeavors to find that new balance with how I manage my work, responsibilities, and time.  It is a reminder (of which I am in need of many of them quite often) that this is a new start.  A new method.  A new way of doing things…. and it’s okay to take slow steps to assure your footing is strong and as sure as possible.

Reading Summary:  Don’t allow uncertainty (Moon) to distract you (Two of Swords).  Instead, soldier on (Knight of Swords) and use the tools and skills at your disposal (Magician) to follow your inner wisdom’s call.

Just sayin’?  But the more I use this deck… the more I like this deck.

Take Away:  The cards here are referring to how sometimes my intuition’s voice can sometimes get a little muddled when dealing with upheaval that causes fear and uncertainty. This is very apropos considering the upheaval I had last night with the very out of control customer that lost his shit in my email.

Dame Darcy's Mermaid TarotReading Summary: It’s a selfish point of view as stated (Queen of Swords Rx) and needs to be reworked from a different perspective (Hanged Man over the Nine of Swords) in order to be less insensitive and ‘blind’ (Eight of Swords).

Take Away:  Okay yeah… I get that. The post that I wrote last night on this topic was very self centered and not at all “woke” or enlightened.  More just me popping off and being a bit of an ass. The cards here warn that posting it as-is risks hurting myself and others.  I’m not sure if I’ll rewrite it, or just scrap it entirely.  Either way, I’ll take the card’s advice on this and hold off on posting it as-is.
