Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Star Power Tarot - The Lovers

Today’s draw is The Lovers card, which is traditionally a representation of love and relationships, long term contracts, harmonious unions, and making choices that are geared toward what is best for you.

The Lovers card has then been combined with a card from the In This Moment Mindfulness Affirmation Cards, which says, “In this moment, I flow with life and let go of control.”

Every day we make choices in what we engage in, and what we choose not to engage in. Sometimes those choices are good ones… and sometimes not so good.

Usually, the not so good choices in this area, come about because we let our emotions or the demands and expectations of others take over our decision-making process, and during times when others are making decisions or pushing expectations upon us that do not align with our authentic selves or our desires on who we wish to become.

The message in today’s Lovers card and affirmation are a reminder that it’s okay to let go of control once in a while. Just make sure that when you do, that it’s during time when you can continue to float for a time along the path you’ve chosen for yourself, and not get pulled off course.

Tarot Reading with the Unofficial Shel Silverstein Tarot and Strange & Eerie Cryptid Creatures Oracle

Philosophical Question: Can we understand good without evil?

Ten of Cups Rx and Hugag

No. Like many things in life, humanity has trouble understanding certain concepts without something in opposition to compare it to.

This doesn’t mean that there can’t be good without evil, though, only that we cannot understand one of these concepts fully without being able to make a comparison to the other.

As an adult, where am I neglecting myself at this time?

Ten of Wands and Tsmok

You are putting too much pressure and unreasonable expectation upon yourself instead of doing what comes naturally to you. In doing so, you are neglecting needs that have been with you throughout your entire life and you know are necessary to be healthy and happy.

Stop trying to juggle and put the burdens down now and then so that you can get the time in nature that you need

How can I begin to resolve this pattern of neglect?

Death and Yowie

Stop ignoring your needs to get out and nature among the trees and connect with the soil and roots. Ignoring these needs will not make them go away or fade. It just makes being able to fulfill them seem more illusive.

: What part of me feels more awake or aware today?

Tarot Reading with the Star Power Tarot

Reading Summary: The judgy bitch (Judgment and Empress Rx) and the problem solver (Magician) that insists the old ways are the best ways (The Hierophant).

Take Away: Why break the wheel? If it’s not broken, why fix it?

The above was written this morning when I first pulled these cards. Indeed, the judgy bitch and problem solver were both very much awake and aware today.

Conflict happened due to the former, and was resolved (I hope) because of the latter. Things were broken that I didn’t realize were broken… things need fixing that I hadn’t realized needed fixing.

Now, the judgy bitch is living in my head picking me apart, and the Empress Rx is a reminder that I can allow my negative inner narratives to bleed me dry on these words spoken that were not meant in the way they were heard and taken… or I can be kind to myself and try to let it go.

Chromatika Tarot - Seven of Pentacles and the In This Moment Affirmation Cards

Today’s draw is the Seven of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of slow growth, sustainability, domestic harmony, hard work, and practicing patience while the fruits of your labors develop and take form.

The Seven of Pentacles has then been combined with a card from the In This Moment Mindful Affirmation Cards, which says, “In this moment, I am in charge of how I feel, and I choose happiness.”

Developing a healthy and happy mindset takes time. For someone like me, whose natural tendency is to lean towards pessimistic thinking and negative inner narratives, it can take a lot of time… and a lot of effort too.

That is, after all, what this daily practice with the cards is all about. It’s about finding nuggets of positivity to help balance out all the negative crap going on in my brain. And, it’s okay that it takes as much time as it takes, because this activity is not a cure, but rather something to be sustained for a happier and healthier life.

The message in today’s Seven of Pentacles and affirmation card is a moment of re-orientation. Sometimes the negative self talk in my head tries to tell me that this activity is just a waste of time and energy. These cards are a reminder of why I do this practice every day, and provide a moment of reflection to reconnect with the purpose of this activity.

Oracle Reading with the Food Tarot

Something I would love to try if I had more time

Chili Pepper and Banana

Strength training. There was a time when I went to the gym regularly for strength training. This, along with regular yoga and pilates, allowed me to have a great deal more strength and flexibility, and thus more mobility than I have these days.

These activities have been traded in for other responsibilities, for there is only so many hours in a day and energy available to me. If I had more time for these activities, I would love to get back into it on a regular basis.

Something I would do if money was not a limitation

Chickpea and Blueberry

I would like to allow myself more time and space to be vulnerable. A large part of each and everyone of my days is eaten up by the activities required to pull in the money I need for simple day-to-day survival and comfort. This means I need to have my “shields up” a great deal more often than would be necessary if money were not a motivating factor in my life.

: How can I courageously embrace change?

Tarot Reading with the Chromatika Tarot - The World card, The Hermit card, Two of Wands

Two of Wands – Make a plan. Even if the plan doesn’t work or goes awry at some point, having a plan in place helps you feel more confident in dealing with change. You can always adapt to that plan later on, or toss it out the window and make a new one if needed. It’s not about setting that plan in stone, but rather the confidence it inspires within you.

The Hermit Rx – Remember that you’re not alone. Change can be very challenging, and it’s easy to get lost in the uncertainty. Reach out to others to help support you during these times instead of trying to take it all on your own shoulders and not bother anybody else. Those that would help you in these situations are the same people that it’s okay to see you when your vulnerable.

The World – Don’t lose track of the fact that the changes you’re riding out it will eventually come to an end. Everything is temporary, including change. Sooner or later there will be a lull where things will settle down again, if only for a little while before the next change comes calling.

Soul Tarot - Death card and the In This Moment Affirmation Cards

Today’s draw is the Death card, which is traditionally a representation of gradual organic changes, loss, slow moving transitions, and letting go.

The Death card has then been combined with an affirmation from the In This Moment Mindful Affirmation Cards, which says, “In this moment, I live in the moment. I focus on the now.”

I love the depiction of a nurse log as Death in this deck. It creates for me an awareness of cycles and promise.

In the forest, when you come upon a nurse log, some only see the destruction and decay of a fallen tree. Others only see what -could- be done with the tree and the land beneath it.

Those that are open to being mindful in the moment, though, find that this dead tree is not dead at all. It is teeming with life. It’s sacrifice and thus its fallen body host and shelter an innumerable variety of creatures and plants both… including saplings that will grow tall into strong and healthy trees.

Thus, the nurse log isn’t the end, but rather the next stage in an ever continuing cycle of life.

The message in today’s Death card and affirmation is a reminder of how much richness and life there is in this moment… even in the presence of Death.

Tarot Reading with The Yellow House Tarot and Tree Magick Oracle

A place that makes me feel happy or at peace

The Moon and The Judas Tree

The drown (aka. subspace). Here’s the thing about my relationship with Gid. He is intense. Together, we are intense. Especially so during sex. His dominant nature draws out a need to yield and submit that I’ve never even experienced with anyone else, let alone wanted to explore. With him? It’s natural. So natural that there’s no choice to it. It just happens. In fact, the first time I experienced around him I ran scared.

Eighteen years later, I’m now quite addicted, of course. Even with the misery of the subsequent drop (subdrop), it’s something I find myself eager to experience again and again. A safe place created just for me filled with a myriad of uncertainties held at bay by him.

A tradition or little ritual I want to keep creating

The Magician and Peach Tree

I want to continue in growing into those things I enjoy. This means releasing not only those things that no longer serve me, but also those ones I just plain don’t enjoy in favor of the activities and pursuits that I do.

For me, this is a relatively new concept, as I was raised to prioritize responsibly and obligation above all else including my own safety and happiness. This change in toward prioritizing myself and my own likes is something I would like to develop into a sacred tradition of self care and self kindness.

Philosophical Question for August 5th
: Does luck (good or bad) actually exist?

Tarot Reading with the Soul Tarot

Reading Summary: Luck is far more about the energy you put into a thing (all the Wands) than about divine timing or fate (The Devil atop Two of Wands).

It’s not about planning, which can create unreasonable expectations and a mindset of pass-or-fail (again, The Devil atop Two of Wands). Rather, it’s about doing with an open mind (Page of Wands atop Six of Wands).

Take Away: Although these cards don’t deny the existence of good luck or bad luck, what they do is instead indicate that most of what people interpret as luck is actually a misidentification of consequences.

While there may be circumstances that appear like good luck, for example, much in the same way that grass always looking greener in the other side of the fence, it is far more often to be the repercussions (good or bad) of the energy and attitude you bring into the situation, path, or endeavor.
