Responsibility

Always ready
and always there
always dependable
and always near
ready to go
at the drop of a hat
when the phone rings
already packed
always on call
for when need does arise
ready and waiting
for when we have to fly

This is my go-bag.  I actually have two of these. An old and worn one in gray that is packed for day hikes, and this one which is my emergency bag that is kept packed for running out to the hospital or other types of emergencies.

I feel delicate
like petals
splayed wide
and fine stamen
stretching
to seek
the lightest touch
while the barest
flush of color
skims over skin
to speak
of the vulnerability
I feel
for you

Temperate Shifts

Cool breath skims
over skin
followed by heat
too miserable
to be in
but the cool returns
once again
and we’re left
wondering
what month we’re in.
Hooray for
no Indian Summer
this year…
I hope.

Dream Echoes

Heart and stomach
clenched like rocks
heavy
in the chest
as each takes turns
trying to climb
into the throat
and a hand lifts
to wipe
sleep from
corners of the eyes
while a shaky breath
is drawn
and reality
comes back into focus
