This is my go-bag. I actually have two of these. An old and worn one in gray that is packed for day hikes, and this one which is my emergency bag that is kept packed for running out to the hospital or other types of emergencies.

like petals
splayed wide
and fine stamen
stretching
to seek
the lightest touch
while the barest
flush of color
skims over skin
to speak
of the vulnerability

Temperate Shifts
Cool breath skims
over skin
followed by heat
too miserable
to be in
but the cool returns
once again
and we’re left
wondering
what month we’re in.
Hooray for

clenched like rocks
heavy
in the chest
as each takes turns

A moment’s peace
stretched long
and sweet

with eyes closed

drip drip of faucet
causing ripples
on the water
the only sound
to brush ears
and a deep breath
is pulled to lungs
then let out
nice and slow
as muscles ease
