Gideon’s Challenge

October Goodness

The spooky season
has come
and with it
a little fun
with round one
of decorations
galore
hung outside
the door
and lots of sweets
on every counter
and filling
every bowl
a season of temptation
and gluttony
and more.

Road TripThe Road Home

Where should we go
he asked with a grin
Tahiti or Timbuktu?
Whistler or Munich?
And with all
the choices
and potential
to see
all I could say
when he looked
at me
with curious eyes
and a crooked smile
is
“Lets go home.”

The Stray Viola

ViolaLittle sparks
of color
hidden in the grass
sweet little faces
looking up
to say hello
how could
anyone
consider them
a weed
and say ‘no’
to a few
colorful visitors
hidden in the grass
to brighten up
one’s day
delicate and sweet
as they look up to say ‘hey!’

Boo Boo BunnyMy Love

Darkness creeps in
to say hello
and try to crush
my heart
in its fist
as self destruction
takes the wheel
to steer for a day
and when
the smoke clears
he is there
with open arms
to patch wounds
and help in
piecing everything
back together again

Photo Sep 19 2023, 12 16 15 PMThe Good Fight

I can’t seem to
find my stride
and all I want to do
is hide
to bury myself
where I can’t
be found
and let the world
go on turning ’round
without me there
to witness each day
and struggle and fight
to make
my own way

Photo-Sep-05-2023,-10-18-22-AMFucking Up

Not enough time
no organization
can fit more minutes
in a day
and pushing harder
only breaks me down
chipping away
sacrificing
pieces of self
to a greater good
am I even the same man
you once understood?
every day you hurt
just a little more
and the fight
becomes a struggle
to not walk out the door
because what am I doing
but hurting us again
compounding your pain
with mine
over and over again
I’m failing on repeat
never enough
and as tears fall I wonder…
Should I rip the bandaid off?
Should I rip out my heart?
Would he be better off?
