and bright leaves
tumble
to the ground
to turn tattered
and brown
as the sky begins
to make promises
of snow
soon to come

the downpour
rolls over green hills
as Autumn
begins a slow march
into winter

in small pops
of color
in the autumn cold
and morning frost
that blankets
the blades of grass
and falling leaves
while hardy flowers
burst open
in celebration
at the end
of summer heat
and approach of winter

and heading off
into the woods

above our heads
bigger than fields
and mountains
and silent
as the quietest
whisper
slipping off
towards the horizon
like time
