The White Stuff
No snow this year
the weatherman says
and the forests
stay lush and green
as evergreen trees stand
fronds of fern sway
and the moss
continues to cling
No ice on the rocks
no white fluff
the water
continues to flow
and you have to head east
to mountain peaks
if you want to play
in the snow
The Warm Welcome
Sanctuary sought
and given easily
with the warm
glow of lights
and a beautiful
Christmas wreath
The door opens wide
with a smile
there to greet
as the nip of cold
is forgotten
once within
the indoor heat
while hugs are given
and kisses received
and winter break begins
… I’m so relieved
The Xmas Basket
A hop inside
to look around
and a sniffle
at each corner
a little bit
of making biscuits
to assure that
all is in order
and suddely
the basket’s hers
claimed
forever more
and she proceeds
to sit in it
and stare at you
for hours
All Aglow
The Christmas lights
are hung
and garlands
twisted and twined
while plastic snowflakes
and ornaments
shimmer
along the rail
and inside
is welcoming warmth
and a decorated tree
and if you’re very lucky
maybe
a fresh baked cookie
or three
The Winter Bridge
Perched high above
a chill wind blows
and I watch
the icy waters
as they swirl and flow
and all I want to do
is be here with you
and hold hands
and close our eyes
as the air nips us
with frozen dew
and when the water calls
it’ll be just you and I
as we step off the edge
to see if we can fly
Transition is Coming
A moment to sit
and take it all in
set chaos aside
as it’s time to begin
enjoying all things
lost to the haze
of holiday rush
and the shopping craze
It’s almost time
for a little break
to leave work behind
and be sure to take
some time for yourself
and loved ones too
and shower self care
upon you
