Beltane 2022

This Sunday is Beltane, which is also my sister and I’s birthday. Like Halloween is a time when the veil between the land of the living and the realm of the dead is thin, this holiday is the time when the veil between our world and that of the Fae is at is thinnest.  I personally often find myself amped up with extra energy around this time of year, which I most often use to spend more time playing in that thinning veil as much as possible.

Like with new moons and full moons, I usually do a spread to check in with myself and give myself some direction for the next couple of months for each solstice, equinox, and other Sabbats. This spread is an adaptation of my Self Care Saturday spread, so there are sure to be  some similarities in how it is read. The focus of this spread, though, is not about Self Care, but rather about progress and my path. The time period is also longer, reaching through the next handful of weeks until the celebration of Litha in June.

Theme of the SeasonBeltane, New Moon, Viola tricolor

Beltane is a holiday permeated with themes that have to do with being in the peak of spring, fertility, and the growth and bounty of the summer to come. It is a holiday filled with the energy of anticipation and abundance.

The New Moon is a time of beginnings, where the seed of new energies are presented and the spark of energy for growth is sparked. It is a time to embrace new beginnings, set intentions, and launch new projects.

The Wild Pansy (Viola tricolor) is a beautiful wildflower that is also cultivated as an ornamental. It is a diuretic, as well as having been used to treat respiratory issues caused by inflammation, as well as certain skin issues like eczema. Metaphysically, the wild pansy represents represents purity, love, and death, and is often used in spellcraft surrounding these themes, as well as in easing grief from separation and loss.

When looking at these three cards together, the theme that I see here is about letting go of expectations, and starting fresh.  This feels never more true than in this moment, in this time when I am between sickness… and recovery and wellness. My body purged clean.  A new start approaching.

EarthThe Devil – You are currently embroiled in a battle with your addictions and addictive impulses. Continue the good fight and keep a diligent eye to make sure that this battle doesn’t cause further disruption to your finances and home life.

AirThe Hermit – Take a moment to reflect on where you are and where you are going. Alone time might not be feasible at the moment, but reflection upon yourself and your path is. Consider who you want to be, and who you want to become.

WaterSix of Cups – You had a serious backslide this week in the area of your emotions. Acknowledge it, but don’t dwell on it. You can’t undo what has been done, but you can carry your mistakes with integrity and make sure they do not end up repeated again.

FireThe Chariot – Seize control and make sure things are going in the direction you want with your business. When things are running smoothly here, the rest of your life often feels as if it’s easier to get it to fall in line.

WaningThe Explorer and Autumn – It’s time to stop allowing your melancholy and disrupted energy to hold you down and keep you stagnant. Allow the fresh air of spring to swirl through and sweep away the cobwebs.

WaxingThe Shaman and Standing Stone – Self exploration and laying yourself bare is a part of the process at this time in your life.  It’s frightening, and it can be painful, but this is how you become who you want to be, by taking yourself apart and then putting yourself back together again better than before.

What is blocking my prosperity?

Queen of Swords Rx – Negative inner narratives that beat you down and emasculate you emotionally and physically are blocking your prosperity not just in aspects of monetary wealth, but in the abundance possible in all areas of life. These are echoes from the past that pierced the skin and burrowed deep, and still require more healing.

Where am I playing too small?

Ace of Wands – You should be encouraging that inner spark of creativity and the joy it gives you to set it free. Stop smothering it.

What past financial situations do I need to forgive myself for?

Six of Pentacles – Taking help when it is offered is a bruise on the ego, but you need to allow yourself understanding in this area. Those that helped you when you needed it have forgotten all about it, so stop holding it over your own head.

What untapped well of wealth have I been ignoring?

Eight of Pentacles – You’ve spent a very long time honing your skills when it comes to your craft, specifically in the creation of beautiful jewelry. You have the ability to not just make money at this, but to truly enjoy the process as well.

Where can I be more fiscally responsible?

The Star Rx – Self-medicating through spending may make you feel good in the moment when your hope is depleted and you’re feeling down and disconnected, but it creates a bigger problem in the process.

New Moon advice from the Minoan Goddess Amalthea.

The High Priestess Rx – Your connection with your intuition is taking a hit lately while you were going through your depression. It’s time to start reconnecting.

🌕 Full Moon in Libra – April 2022

Today is the full moon, and like all new moons and full moons, I did a spread aligned to the moon’s current themes as a part of my recognition of the moon’s cycle and influences upon us. Today’s spread is about the medicine within, and brought to you by Ethony‘s Tarot by the Moon series.

What does my mind need for healing and balance?

King of Pentacles – Stability and security, facilitated by trusted advisors that help you in making sure you foster this in your life both through your physical health as well as through your finances. This provides you with peace of mind and, therefore, then fosters a sense of mental well-being and balance.

What does my body need for healing and balance?

The Devil – Awareness. It is through knowing where one’s weaknesses and temptations lie that could become unhealthy that you are able to keep these unhealthy and self-destructive tendencies in check.

What does my soul need for healing and balance?

Six of Cups – Nostalgia. Remember that there is plenty good in your past to celebrate. The bad stuff may be easier to remember, but it’s important to work at remembering the good stuff as well.

What self-care act am I being called to take?

Ace of Wands – Seek out the inner spark of enthusiasm that the depression has caused to dwindle, and as you climb for the lip of the pit, foster that spark of flame so that it will grow. Be gentle with yourself, for that spark is currently tender and delicate.

What is my major lesson right now?

Three of Pentacles – You are not alone. There are many in your life willing and eager to lend a hand and join forces with you in both your person and professional endeavors. You have only need to be open to them.

Full Moon advice from the Minoan Goddess Amalthea.

Temperance – Just because you have a lot to do doesn’t mean that you have to dive in head first and lose your balance in the push to do more. Take a breath. Take your time. Focus on grace over speed.

🌑 New Moon in Aries – March 2022

On Monday is the new moon, and like all new moons and full moons, I did a spread aligned to the moon’s current themes as a part of my recognition of the moon’s cycle and influences upon us. Today’s spread is about the medicine within, and brought to you by Ethony‘s Tarot by the Moon series.

Faery Temple Oracle

The card you’ve chosen to represent the change you want to bring about.

Rebirth – I want to rise out of the darkness of depression’s pit into the light and feel renewed again. It’s time to make the climb, and I’m trying, but it feels like it’s taking forever and that I’m not getting anywhere. I know that I am, in fact, getting there… I just long to feel that renewal of perspective, awareness, and joyous enjoyment that I know is coming. I wish I could just do it… experience it through will alone, but it is something that must unfurl at its own pace.

The most likely outcome if you make this change.

Shine – A return to self and boost of energy that will allow you to shine brightly for a time. Light and energy in free flow allowing your creative self to spark to shimmer and shine brightly.

What boundaries do I need to set during this change?

Revel – Make sure you are enjoying it, and not bogging yourself down or taking it for granted.

Just as you see the minute details of the forest and take pictures of them to share with the world while others tread the path and see nothing but “trees”, so too do you need to look at life and not allow negativity to influence you from missing out on the small treasures and other good stuff.

What do I need to let go of to move forward?

Flight – Fear. Don’t curl up and hide away, protecting yourself from those things that you fear. Instead, let go of your fear so that you can move forward beyond it and discover, in having done so, that what you feared was not that big of a deal after all.

What do I need to remember during this change?

Consequence – What you focus on is what manifests into reality. If you focus on the bad stuff, it’s the bad stuff that comes true. So make sure that you’re focusing on the good stuff. This way you are getting what you want out of the experience, instead of what you don’t want to come to pass manifesting as a consequence of where your focus lies.

Where do I need to be careful? Continue with caution around this.

Resilience – Don’t forget that at the moment you are the one that needs support. You are so open and willing to support others in so many different ways, but your energy is not boundless. Make sure you are saving some of that energy for yourself right now. You’ll survive the transition either way, but it’ll be a far more pleasant experience if you have more a bit more energy and give yourself a bit more slack for the time being.

What/who is my ally?

Pleasure atop Authenticity – Your allies at this time (and always, for that matter) are those that enjoy spending time with you and accept you exactly for who you are, quirks and flaws included. You may have a hard time believing this is true, but they are out there and they love you… just as you are.

New Moon advice from the Minoan Goddess Amalthea.

Make a Wish – It’s time to get back into doing your daily devotional to connect with the energies and elements that you want to keep as a part of your practice. This has been neglected for too long. And, you should begin including Amalthea in this daily ritual.

Ostara 2022 – Spring Equinox

Tomorrow is the Spring Equinox, which is considered by many to be the first day of Spring, and is one of only two moments in the year when the sun is exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length. After this day, the brightness of daylight begins to overtake the dark hours in the sky as the days continue to longer and longer, and the nights shorter and shorter.  This transition is the basis within the celebration of the holiday itself, as we celebrate the warming and awakening of the earth as she prepares to share her abundance and generosity with us all.

In my path, the Spring Equinox is also known as Ostara.  Although this holiday is celebrated (as Easter around) the world by those that embrace many traditions that originated in Paganism, most don’t realize the full and rich history that this holiday holds.

The time period is also longer, reaching through the next handful of weeks until the celebration of the upcoming Beltane at the beginning of May.

Theme of the SeasonOstara, Waning Gibbous Moon, Betula alba (Silver Birch)

Ostara, as mentioned above, is a celebration of nature’s awakening after the long winter’s sleep.  It’s about the eager energy of spring finally beginning to show itself to us in visible ways, and the uplifting hope that comes with this renewal of energies in the world around us.

In farming, the Waning Gibbous Moon is a time of planting (with the exception of annuals) and transplanting, as it’s believed that absorption of nutrients from the soil occurs the most during the waning phase of the moon, and this sets up bulbs, tubers, and young plants with the energy and food needed to burst into growth for the approaching new moon to come.

Metaphysically, it is a time of release, in which we focus on ridding ourselves of bad habits, negative thinking, and other barriers that hold you back from growth, creating room for more positive energy to flow in as the new moon approaches.

Silver Birch (Betula alba) symbolizes new beginnings, renewal, purification, and protection. This tree holds lessons for us in how hardy even the most fragile of us can be, and in lessons to do with potential and growth. Its oils, extracted from the bark, can be used as an insect repellent as well as to treat certain skin conditions, while an infusion from its leaves is both a diuretic and antiseptic. It’s sap also has healing properties that are useful in treating urinary tract infections.

When looking at these three cards together, the theme that I see here is as the Ostara card says… “The land shall sign with the promise of Spring”.  Yes, the equinox is here and yes, spring has begun, but it is the promise spring brings that we see in these cards.  A promise that in the days and weeks to come we will find energies renewed, and life once more ready to emerge and grow strong.  The abundance is not quite here, but it’s coming. The promise has been made… and it’s coming.

EarthFive of Cups – Dissatisfied and pessimistic. This is something you’ve been battling a lot over the past month or so and you’re finally at a place where you are aware of what is going on and that it’s not just a fog but a depression. This awareness has the potential to allow you to see your moments of dissatisfaction with your current progress towards manifesting what you want as a side effect of that depression.  An illusion instead of reality.

AirKnight of Cups atop The World – Stuck in the moment and not focusing ahead on where you’re going but instead on old ideals. The Knight faces toward the past and toward the world of potential that the past holds.  Turn around and look forward towards the future, instead of staying stuck focusing on past ideals.

WaterThree of Wands – You’re getting there. The depression screws with your emotions, but you’re on your way to clearer skies. It may not always feel like it, but keep moving forward and don’t look back (an echo from the Air section of this reading).

FireSeven of Swords – You need to let go of what is too heavy to carry. Moving forward is easier without all that weight. Ease up on the expectations you put on yourself and let go of the responsibilities that don’t matter right now. You can pick stuff up later on after you’re feeling better if it’s still important at that time.  Right now, it’s just too heavy and is weighing you down. Take only what you can carry and leave the rest.

WaningThe Mystic and Staff – Wandering into the woods with no direction and allowing yourself to meander is not going to serve you well right now.  You need direction, purpose, and focus at the moment to assist you on your travels both spiritually and in life.

WaxingThe Reconciler and Moon – Accept what cannot be changed and focus on what you can alter through reasonably chosen achievable steps. Don’t allow your imagination and what is illusory to stand in your way, but instead use determination to seek clarity, purpose, and direction.

Take Away – Everything here is about opening up to potential. There is a great deal of opportunity upon the road ahead, but in order to see that opportunity clearly and take advantage of the healing it has to offer, it’s going to be necessary to confront inner demons and let go of the negative bad habits that are tying your hands and holding you down.

🌕 Full Moon in Virgo – March 2022

Tonight is the full moon, and like all new moons and full moons, I did a spread aligned to the moon’s current themes as a part of my recognition of the moon’s cycle and influences upon us. Today’s spread is about the medicine within, and brought to you by Ethony‘s Tarot by the Moon series.

Full Moon in Virgo Tarot Reading with the Moonchild Tarot

How can I more deeply embrace my sensual side?

Eight of Cups – Why are you wasting your time on what brings you no pleasure? Let go of what isn’t working for you. Turn down the noise, turn off the machines, step out into the fresh air and silence of the forest more often.  Allow yourself to savor and even wallow in those things you enjoy, and reject those things that stand in your way of that enjoyment.

How can I be less critical this full moon?

Two of Swords – Open your eyes and make an effort to truly see why you’re being a dick to yourself in the first place. You will then be able to make the hard choices needed to set that behavior behind you.

What health and wellness areas need attention?

King of Wands atop Seven of Wands Rx – Be steadfast in your passions, but not aggressively so. It’s going to take a bit of time to get back up to full steam where your motivation is concerned, and that’s okay. Don’t push, just give yourself the support you need to let things grow at their own pace.

What area of my life needs reorganizing?

Page of Swords – How you talk to yourself. You need to seek out and adopt a better way. You have fallen back on old habits that involve a cruel inner narrative geared to tear you down. You are still learning how to turn this around, but you’ll need to seek out a new (and more hopeful) way of doing things.

Full Moon advice from the Minoan Goddess Amalthea.

Page of Wands – Remember that life is a learning process and an adventure. Work on looking forward with eager anticipation.
