#DailyCalm with the Calm appToday’s meditation was ten minutes long, and was one of the #DailyCalm sessions on the Calm app.  In this session, it spoke about  how sometimes when you meditate, just as thoughts often surface to play havoc with your practice, so too do emotions sometimes rise up to do the same.

It invited the listener to use this opportunity to experience your emotions and then let them slide by, rather than trying to immediately push them away. It likened emotions during this time to a crying baby, and how we would not try to force the baby to stop crying, but rather simply sit with it and hold it until the crying passes.  The discussion then reminds us that emotions do not need a narrative, or story, or reason for being.  They just are… and it’s okay to simply experience them and let them then move on without analyzing them.

#DailyCalm with the Calm appToday’s meditation was ten minutes long, and one of the #DailyCalm sessions from the Calm app.  The subject of the session had to do with getting stuck in the past and how, when we allow ourselves to get stuck in the past, whether that be in good memories or bad ones.

It discussed how when we do this, we then set ourselves up to repeat old patterns… as opposed to experiencing new things should we cast our gaze to the present instead.

These cards are a reminder that you don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to pick on yourself to make yourself be perfect either.  They are about reminding yourself of the person you want to become, rather than picking apart every little thing you are doing in the present.

This is one of those things that I personally struggle a great deal with.  Learning how to say something is “good enough” rather than constantly trying to “one up” my best is something I’ve been working on for a few years now. To tell me that I am “doing my best” or to “do your best” is a death trap, as my best is far -more- than is often necessary.  Giving something my all means that I’m going to work at it and pick at it until it is as close to perfection as humanly possible to achieve… which is not healthy.

Learning to embrace “good enough” is a far better goal.

#DailyCalm with the Calm app - Charles Dickens quoteToday’s meditation was twelve minutes long and was one of the #DailyCalm sessions with the Calm app.  The session today was a “loving kindness” practice that had to do with directing loving kindness first toward yourself, then towards loved ones, and then towards those that have wronged you or irritate you in some way.

Interestingly, they said that the directing feelings of loving kindness towards those that wronged you would be the hardest part of the practice, but for me?  It was directing that energy and sentiment towards myself.

In doing so, we give them room to resurface later instead of trying to kill them off and ending up with them fighting back in response. It also removes the self judgement of telling yourself that you’re not “good at” meditation, allowing you to practice without harsh judgements and less frustration.

Tarot of Sacred Feminine - The Star, The Moon, Eight of CupsReading Summary: Generation after generation (Eight  of Cups) we work to build a foundation of hope (The Star) to guide us through times of uncertainty (The Moon).

Take Away: Emotions are unpredictable at times, but we can assist ourselves in making them more predictable and handling them better through preparation over time.

If you prepare yourself to have hope, then when things become tough, you are able to stand strong in uncertainty.  Our emotions follow suit.

The thing is? We cannot prepare for everything or every emotion… there’s always going to be some irrationality in the mix.

I started watching Gyeongseong Creature today.  I’ve been curious about it for a bit now, but I’ve been holding up on watching it because even if I watch while working, it slows me down.

Yes, we all fuck up.  Yes, we all make mistakes… sometimes we wrong others and sometimes we wrong ourselves.  Sometimes we trust who we shouldn’t or do things we know are wrong.

It’s important to move on from these experiences (and their consequences) and learn from them rather than just carry on the bad feelings from them and never learn a thing.

I managed to meditate three days in a row, which is a record lately (because I’ve not had a very good track record over the past few months).

No Choice is the Worst Choice

#DailyCalm with the Calm appToday’s meditation was ten minutes long and was a #dailycalm session from the Calm app. Today’s session was a practice in only focusing on the inhales, which I’ve never tried before and found extremely relaxing.

In the discussion part of the session, it spoke on the differences between resolutions and intentions, focusing most strongly on the fact that with resolutions, we have a tendency to give up when we slip… where as with intentions there is a bit more wiggle room and we are more likely to start again rather than abandoning the goal entirely.

Sometimes indecision makes it a struggle to move or make the choices that need to be made. It can be a problem and can cause you to stall out.

Today’s cards say that in these situations, don’t stop trying and just let things sit.  Don’t allow indecision to keep you still and stagnant. Sometimes, any choice is better than -no- choice; so as long as you’re still striving towards movement, you’re good. It means you’re still trying and you haven’t given up.
