Endings and New Beginnings

Today’s meditation was an eleven minute #DailyCalm session from the @Calm app.

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Denizens of Earth Tarot - Ten of Air - Ten of Swords

Today’s draw is the Ten of Swords (Air), which is traditionally a representation long journeys coming to an end, painful endings, lessons learned the hard way, deep wounds, and sometimes can indicate loss or betrayal.

The Ten of Air has then been combined with an affirmation from the Affirmators! Evening Mantras deck, which says, “it doesn’t matter how old I am or what’s going on in my life — epiphany is always waiting just around the corner (which is why I guess it’s good to sleep with the night-light).”

It’s important to remember that all endings are also new beginnings. When we let go of something that has been a part of our life, it opens up room for something new to take its place.

This is where new ideas and epiphanies take root and are given the space to grow.

Consider, for example, the aloe plant. It propagates by “birthing” babies at its base. Too many babies at its base means that the main plant may die off, creating a cluster of plants that essentially kill off its past to make room for future growth.

The message in today’s cards is a reminder that it’s okay to mourn what you’re losing, as long as you don’t hold onto it past its usefulness. You have to let it go in order to make room for something better to slip in and take its place.

Tarot Reading with The Bone Tarot and The Supreme's Small City Oracle

Venus enters Taurus: What brings me comfort, pleasure, and joy?

Percolate, Two of Wands, Straight Ahead

It brings me comfort to have time to percolate (think things over and consider in-depth).

It brings me pleasure to be offered choices, instead of being backed into a corner where it feels that there are none.

It brings me joy when the path that feels right for me is clear and easy to discern, without winding turns that create moments of self doubt.

Looking Back: What am I proud of myself for navigating in the past month?

Ace of Swords atop Ace of Wands Rx; Off Season

Allowing myself the time and space to think and plan, and work on the strategic part of things, instead of jumping into new projects to distract myself from the issues at hand.

I’ve taken this business slump as an opportunity to study, learn, and improve instead of an opportunity to hide from my problems.

Tarot Reading with the Denizens of Earth Tarot

How can you connect more strongly with the invigorating energy of Spring’s arrival?

The Empress atop Ten of Earth; Ten of Water

If you foster a nurturing attitude toward your needs and wants, you will in turn feel like you have everything you could need or want at your fingertips.

Abundance comes from a place of grounded nurturing, not self directed cruelty or abuse.

What do you need to focus on for self-care for the upcoming full moon?

Six of Water and Four of Air Rx

Look back on those things in your past that have brought you joy, and instead of falling into new habits of languishing in your free time, revisit these past activities and rekindle your passion for them.

Walks and photography with real camera. Time in nature and visits to stony beaches, digging in the dirt and noticing the little details of nature like the intricacies of moss and lichen. Rest isn’t always about sleep, it’s about those things that rekindle your inner spark.

Exotic Flora Tarot - The Hanged Man

Today’s draw is The Hanged Man, which is traditionally a representation of taking a pause, considering alternate perspectives, relaxing into difficult situations, surrender, or letting go.

The Hanged Man has then been combined with an affirmation card from The Az Oracle, which says, “When life is reflecting who you were… remind it who you ARE. It will catch up 😉 trust me. The reflection doesn’t shift until we’re ready for it to, but you can remind yourself you’re ready, anytime.”

Sometimes the world around us, and even those closest to us, are unable to keep up with our growth.

We have the opportunity to learn new things and become better people every single day. Unfortunately, others can’t always see the internal shifts that happen. It takes time for you to demonstrate these changes in visible ways others can see, usually repeatedly, before other people begin to get it and see you differently.

The message in today’s cards is a reminder that just because people don’t recognize the growth that you have accomplished doesn’t mean that it is invalidated. It just means that they haven’t caught up yet. Be patient, and they will catch up with you eventually.

Oracle Reading with the Secret Mysteries The Chakra Oracle and Twist's Gratitude Postcard Set

Reading Summary: All of the cards tie together with the Anchor card through the hues in the Hermit’s cloak. This speaks of your ability to remain in a state of peaceful serenity during moments of chaos, no matter what is going on around you.

In an emergency, you don’t panic. You set aside the fear and anxiety to instead lead the way (the lantern color in the Anchor card connects with the color of the gazelle in the Peace card), letting others lean on you for stability and hope (the lantern color in the Anchor card also connects to the golden aura surrounding the figure in the Dreams card).

You may fall apart later when you are alone, but in the moment you remain serene (background in the Anchor card matching the dress of the figure in the Serenity card).

Take Away: You are excellent in a crisis. You may struggle with the anxiety that comes with powerlessness when you’re given the time to think and react… but in the moment of an emergency, there’s no one better. You have the ability to set aside your emotions and the reactions those emotions may cause and just act.

In doing so, you provide direction and stability for others that can’t handle emergencies and crisis as gracefully as you do. They follow you and trust you to help them through these moments, and in doing so they receive a touch of your calm serenity.

Prompt No. 9 : What would a “good day” look like for me right now?

Tarot Reading with the Exotic Flora Tarot - The Hanged Man, Seven of Wands, Page of Cups

Reading Summary: No emotional complications (Page of Cups Rx), just you being you (The Hanged Man) and dealing with issues in your own way as they crop up (Seven of Wands)… aka. no people pleasing required.

Take Away: So many of your days are spent trying to please others in one way or another. You don’t get the opportunity or luxury of being able to just step back and not have to worry about these things.

For this reason, a “good day” for you involves a lack of people pleasing, and the opportunity to just step back and observe rather than needing to play Mr Fix-It.

Added to that (and an integral part of it as well, since people pleasing is usually spurred by emotions) is not having to deal with emotional complications. You’re doing well at learning about your emotions and expanding your emotional intelligence… but in the process that means you’re often dealing with emotions you don’t yet fully understand or know how to deal with. It’s often frustrating, and a “good day” would not include this frustration and discomfort.

Other elements included in this reading:

Gilded Tarot - Ten of Wands

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Ten of Wands, which is traditionally a representation of overwhelm, burnout, struggling under too much responsibility, and can indicate a need to do some prioritizing and delegation.

Has then been combined with an affirmation card from The Az Oracle (Part 2), which says, “Radical self respect is a simple willingness to hold yourself in the high regard of love, even when others choose not to.”

Love yourself enough to give yourself a break when you need it. Love yourself enough to listen to your body and listen to your mind and listen to your emotions. Love yourself enough to hear what they have to say and understand that it’s okay to stop those things that are hurting you rather than continuing to carry on with them.

It isn’t other people you need to impress, nor their wants and expectations you need to fulfill. Take care of you first. Put you first.

The message in today’s cards is that if you’re on the edge and about to break, it’s time to start examining how you got there in the first place and who’s expectations you are allowing to push you to that point. If they’re your own, it’s time to reevaluate why you’re pushing so hard, and if they’re someone else’s… set the burden down, because it’s not yours to carry in the first place.

Saturn sextile Pluto: What foundation am I building for the future?

Top Two Cards (47 & 13) – Protection is not a one man operation, but rather something that you work together with others to accomplish. Each person’s skills work together with someone else’s to create a greater security overall.

You’ve learned that trying to do everything on your own isn’t the best solution, no matter how familiar and thus comfortable it may seem. You are learning to break these old habits, and to instead ask for help, delegate, and invite others in to assist and participate.

Grounding: What part of my life is beginning to feel more stable?

Bottom Two Cards (11 & 64) – You’re not feeling as swept away by uncertainty these days, and are stepping into the process of rebuilding the confidence you’d once had that last Autumn had so thoroughly trounced. This is taking time, and there’s a lot of uncertainty left to deal with, but the confidence you lost is there for the taking and you’ve begun the journey of reclaiming it.

Tarot Reading with the Gilded Tarot

Who do I feel most comfortable being myself around?

Queen of Cups and King of Pentacles Rx – You feel most comfortable with those in your life that provide warmth and support while not casting judgement upon your eccentricities.

These are the people in your life that you trust to be vulnerable with, and allow your fears and uncertainties to show. They accept just not your occasional oddness, but also that softer side you that you try so hard to hide and protect.

Why?

Three of Cups and Knight of Wands Rx – They provide acceptance without making it their mission to change you. This in turn makes them feel safe, and allows you to be yourself without the need for masks and buffers.

Their love and caring, acceptance and lack of judgement give you a “safe space” for your emotions that you didn’t realize you needed until a few years ago when you started digging in and trying to explore your emotions for the first time.

Wayhome Tarot - Three of Cups

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Three of Cups, which is traditionally a representation of friendships, revelry, celebration, and collaboration between those that are linked or alike not just in mind but also in heart.

The Three of Cups has then been combined with an affirmation from the Affirmators! Morning Mantras deck, which says, “Today I’ll notice all the little ways I’m loved, nurtured, and support supported.”

Although the trip that you’re on right now isn’t necessarily entirely yours, that doesn’t mean that you can’t find ways in which to enjoy yourself by connecting with those that are along for the ride with you.

Go out of your way to have a little fun and foster connections with your travel mates. Then take the time to actually recognize and acknowledge not just the fun being had, but also the love, caring, and support you have with those currently at your side.

The message in today’s cards is a reminder that the day doesn’t have to be as dark and dismal and crappy as you think it’ll be. That’s your negative inner narratives talking, and if you let it? It’ll set a pall over the entire day. Remember that sometimes you just have to change it up yourself instead of expecting it to change on its own or not to change at all.

What do you need to take more pride in?

Ox-Eye Daisy, Ten of Cups, Common Ivy – You have a great deal of skill when it comes to clearing the path towards a place of contentment and happiness.

This is an area where you have recently felt as if you have lost your sense of pride, though, especially during the events that happened last Autumn with your business. As a result, you are feeling more listless and less inspired of late.

Feeling hemmed in and powerless is repressing this quality in you, allowing it to be smothered. That doesn’t mean it’s gone. It’s just hard to get worked up and excited about things when there’s no fresh air to breathe.

How can you foster a greater sense of pride in this area?

Bear’s Ear, Queen of Cups, Common Stock – Utilize Spring’s energies to help you nurture back into fruition this skill that you have lost faith in.

Nurturing in this area requires turning one’s energy, efforts, and attention towards its revitalization. Recognize your ability to thrive, even during times when the road is rough. Allow these past experiences to bolster your confidence. This type of nurturing will help you to rebuild what last Autumn’s experience took from you.

Prompt No. 7 : What habits help me feel grounded, even if they’re small?

Tarot Reading with the Wayhome Tarot

Daughter of Cups – Reminding myself that I am still a novice when it comes to my emotions. Remembering that there is a lot that I don’t understand, and that I also don’t need to understand everything… just experience it.

There’s nothing to “fix” and nothing to “do” when it comes to these emotions. I just need to acknowledge I’m feeling them and resist the urge to try to shove them into a dark corner somewhere.

Ace of Swords – Writing down my new ideas as they come to me. So often in the past I’ve always tried to just remember… and ended up forgetting. Even simple little things that seem like common sense or something really ridiculously easy to remember.

By writing them down, it gives me a sense of security that I’m not going to forget something important or miss out on something that would’ve been a good idea if I’d only managed to remember it when I needed it or have the time for it.

The Sun – Positivity and optimism practices. I don’t always see the results of these practices, but other people do. Others have noticed, even when they don’t realize what I’ve been doing, or what has changed, and they comment on it. That means these practices are working, even if I’m not personally able to see it directly. There’s still success there.

Dreamkeepers Tarot - Seven of Pentacles

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

Today’s draw is the Seven of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of slow growth, sustainability, domestic harmony, hard work, and practicing patience while the fruits of your labors develop and take form.

The Seven of Pentacles has then been combined with an affirmation from the Pass Around the Smile Positive Guidance Cards, which says, “Trust & Receive ~ Amazing work! Your persistence is paying off. Trust the process and expect to receive very soon.”

It’s extremely difficult not to lose hope when something that you’re invested feels like it’s taking forever.

Yes, there’s something to be said for patience. But, at the same time, patience can only take you so far before you start to lose hope. This is true whether it’s a goal you’re working towards, trauma you’re working through, or growth you’re trying to achieve.

This is where persistence comes into play, as well as trust. Persistence is the application of willpower alongside one’s patience. Combined with trust that the universe is going to allow you to get where you’re going eventually, it is a powerful tool in achieving one’s long-term goals and aspirations.

The message in today’s cards is a reminder that there is more to moving forward than active participation or tight gripped control. Sometimes persistence is required… as well as trust that you will get there when the timing is right and not before then.

Identity: What truth about my identity is becoming clearer?

Root of Pentacles and New Moon – You don’t like that you’re beginning to grow a greater tolerance for insincerity and lack of integrity. You don’t want this to become “the new normal” for you and who you are, and you worry that this newfound tolerance will be the beginning of a change that will move you in that direction.

Patience: Where can I practice more patience with myself?

Wheel of Fortune and Autumn – (The cards pulled here chose to expand on the previous question, connecting them together.)

Remember that it is perfectly okay to say “not my circus, not my monkeys”.

If it doesn’t have anything to do with you, there’s no reason to make it have anything to do with you. Get involved in the things that you want to be involved in, and sit out the ones that you don’t. This isn’t a show of a new type of tolerance, but rather a stronger sense of discernment.

Prompt No. 6 : When do I feel the most confident or clear-headed during the day?

Tarot Reading with the Dreamkeepers Tarot

Reading Summary: When you are able to sustain a sense of hope and optimism (The Star), this allows you to bend your trajectory (Strength) in a direction that results in happier outcomes (Ten of Cups).

Take Away: Your mental fog and lack of confidence are a direct result of your negative inner narratives, and the negativity and pessimism they instill within your mind, which then bleeds into your emotions and perceptions of the world around you.

The result of this is that it is when you are keeping up on your practices that help combat your negative inner voice, this is when you are the most clear headed and confident. Thus, the “when” of this question is not a specific time of day, but has more to do with what things you do within your day to create space for hope, optimism, and positivity to hold sway.

When you give these qualities space in your life, you do more than just lighten the load of your anxiety and stress, but create a space for a clearer mind in which your confidence can also flourish.

Daily Mental Health Prompt: Seek a positive message to carry with you throughout the day and offer perspective.

The Westwood Tarot - Five of Pentacles

Today’s draw is the Five of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of tests, trials, struggles, and setbacks in the area of one’s finances, resources, health, home, work, or manifestations. This often translates into themes that have to do with scarcity and times in life when one needs to seek out help from others instead of suffering through alone.

The Five of Pentacles has then been combined with a card from the Affirmators! Evening Mantras deck, which says, “Letting go is the only thing that matters. In letting go – of thoughts, emotions, anxiety, shame spirals – I claim my freedom and make space for what I want to call in.”

Letting go of a sense of scarcity is one of my biggest challenges in life. I struggle with these feelings, even when things are going well… and when they’re not going well, these feelings explode into a near panic of worry and anxiety, dread of eminent failure and harsh self-recriminations.

I do my best to not let that anxiety take control and cause me to act out at myself in reaction. It’s not always easy though. Even when I know I’m overreacting, or that the scarcity I fear isn’t at my doorstep as I think it is in those moments.

The message in today’s cards is a reminder that emotions like to try and screw around with our perception of reality. Just because you feel something doesn’t mean that that’s what’s actually going on. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t feel these emotions, but it does mean that we need to be aware of this tendency so that we act accordingly instead of allowing these emotions to seize control.

Attention: What part of me needs gentle attention?

Crow and Three of Wands – The part of you that is feeling abused by your inner narrative’s insistence that you should be moving instead of stuck.

It’s important to keep in mind that not all the factors involved are under your control right now. Cut yourself a little slack and remember that you’re doing what you can as you are able; and that’s enough.

Sun conjunct Saturn, Sun sextile Pluto: What personal power am I ready to step into?

Four of Pentacles and Land Guardian – You feel at your best when things are steady and stable beneath your feet.

Don’t forget that you can encourage that feeling to flourish within you by getting out in nature and spending time with the trees and moss. It doesn’t change anything in your life as a whole or the situation, but it changes your perspective to one of greater stability, allowing for less anxiety and stress. These influences can help you in dealing with the issues currently before you, as well as the moments of powerlessness that you’re feeling by not being able to control all aspects of the situation.

Philosophical Question for March 25th
: Is courage an inherent virtue or is it learned behavior?

Tarot Reading with The Westwood Tarot

Reading Summary: When we are young (Six of Cups), we don’t see things the same way that we do as an adult (Eight of Swords). We take action without considering consequences. This is not courage, but rather it’s a lack of moderation and forethought (Temperance).

Take Away: Courage comes later in life after we have learned how to think things through before doing them.

Prior to that, those things that we as adults perceived as courage are actually simply impulse and lack of thinking things through. This is because there is no such thing as courage without an acknowledgement of the risk being taken and the consequences involved.

This would indicate that courage is therefore not an inherent virtue, but rather something that has learned along the way. We might learn this earlier or later in life, depending upon our upbringing and experiences along the way, but in the end, it’s not something we are just born with from the start.
