Spring raindrops
fade from memory
as hot summers
sear the moisture
from flesh and soil
to leave
the spirit dry
and cracked
as we try
to remember
what it felt like
to feel lush
and full of life
once more
Like puzzle pieces
on a game board
we fit together
heart to heart
and soul to soul
with each coil
of arms
that holds me close
and fit of parts
against parts
more pieces
fall together
until only as one
are either of us
complete
Don’t tread
upon me
as I seek out
life’s sweetness
one pleasure
at a time
like sipping tea
from a cold glass
on a summer day
Instead…
seek out
what sweetness
you can
and leave mine
to me
A pause
a breath
a moment
stolen
to drop head
back
and close eyes
to the bright
blue sky
and breathe in
slow and deep
for just a moment
and then eyes open
and color
kisses you hello
Knotted and tangled
bent but not broken
the well
has run dry
and so little energy
is left
that to function
is almost
too much
to ask
and all I want
is just a few hours
of quiet
for a nap
I cannot have
I reach for you
with delicate tendrils
of energy
that are tentative
and needy
for your presence
and your touch
to soothe away
the rawness
and the ache
at the center
of my soul
so that I can
breathe
more easily
