Gideon’s Challenge

Post Office TraineeBe Kind

I remember
working retail
for the holiday season
with all the
harried people
aggressive
for no reason
and I can just imagine
how the
postal workers feel
when the package count
has climbed
until it feels unreal
how overwhelmed they are
when push comes to shove
and aggression rears
its ugly head
in their catch 22 rub

Our Lady of Prompt SuccorTraditions

Old traditions
and hand-me-downs
breathe life
into moments
when meaning
is passed on
from the aged
to the young
whose eyes
are caught
by graceful beauty
pretty baubles
and the shimmer
of lights

Lights in the ParkThe Walk

Lets walk together
through the park
no longer dark
and dangerous
but lit in holiday lights
and the warm glow
of a fading autumn
and watch
hand in hand
as leaves
flitter and fall
in the bright shimmer
that pretends
winter is here
while autumn still fades

Autumn LeavesShifting Seasons

The vibrancy
of Autumn
falls away as
the winter solstice
draws near
and bright leaves
tumble
to the ground
to turn tattered
and brown
as the sky begins
to make promises
of snow
soon to come
… maybe.

Autumn CloudsThe Shift

Dark clouds
cast shadows
over the golden glow
of Autumn
while blue skies
peek through
here and there
and off
in the distance
the downpour
rolls over green hills
as Autumn
begins a slow march
into winter

Mum FlowersColorful Celebrations

Vibrancy lives on
in small pops
of color
in the autumn cold
and morning frost
that blankets
the blades of grass
and falling leaves
while hardy flowers
burst open
in celebration
at the end
of summer heat
and approach of winter
