Guardian Gift
A surprise
in the mail
for valentines day
and I bring
the package home
filled with curiosity
when I open the box
what do I see?
a fierce red face
looking back at me
a guardian
to watch over
the treasures
I hold dear
and remind me
that love
is always near

where forest floor
squishes
under wet leaves
and pine needles
drip
crystalline drops
to cling
in our hair
as we wander
into the
deep dark woods
and get lost
in nature’s embrace
Breakfast Digressions

on your lip”
he says
and I pause
to lick
along the swell
with the tip
of questing tongue
as he watches
with rapt gaze
every movement
as I collect
what was left behind

One kiss
lights a spark
of warmth
kindling the flame
that resides within
until heat grows
and hunger
awakens
and all thoughts
turn to you
again and again
as the ache
to touch you again
begins
How?
The ups and downs
of emotional swing
make life sigh
with moments
of disappointment
as apathy twines
painfully
around the heart
until the shift comes
Yet somehow
you don’t even notice
when the clouds lift
and things shift
back into balance.
The Little Bit
No more will come
At least we got some
as little as it was
to play in
a little fun
is better than none
and there was more
up north
for playing
and lots of ice
to slip and slide
as kids play hockey
on frozen ice
as we sit and watched
warm and safe inside
