for what lives
within it
as teeth
clench
until jaw aches
and irritation
makes
everything
a little more
difficult
to handle
as chaos
reigns
not in reality
but residing
within the mind
alone

moments
of normalcy
are slipped
between heartbeats
like illusive
grains of sand
sliding
between fingers
lost
no matter
how desperately
grasped
until nothing is left
except empty hands
and the erratic beats
of an
unpredictable rhythm

the drop
rolls in like
storm clouds
to turn
once sunny
disposition
dark and gray
and blot out
the sun
so that every
moment
becomes
difficult
and
unpredictably
volatile
