begin to rot
falling
one by one
as leaves
cling
just a little longer
to their branches
holding on
as the winds
begin to
tug
in an effort
to set them free

well after dawn
and into the day

children’s laughter

by nighttime silence
the decorations
come down
and it feels like
goodbye
with an ache
of sadness
