A gingerbread house
in the pouring rain
with delicate details
and steep rooftop
Adorable and sweet
I want to pluck it up
and take it somewhere
high in the untouched
mountains
to set it down
and settle in
for a winter
of peace and quiet
Waterdroplets kiss
fading leaves
giving their last
flash of bright color
in a darkening
season
as tiny green bits
try to push forth
and fight for
yet another day
to thrive
and magenta stems
deepen darker
and darker still
Wallow in
the mud with me
with laughter
ringing clear
you and I
covered in leaves
pine needles
in our hair
a tumble in
the rich green moss
without a single care
a little mud and dirt
won’t harm you
I promise
I swear
Little buds
continue to open
providing pops
of bright color
in an increasingly
chill clime
as delicate looking
flowers
cheerily greet
each day
with the promise
of holding out
to share their beauty
just a bit longer
Prickly bits of feeling
tendrils reaching out
sensitive and raw
bewildered
confusion abounds
energy a jumble
sulking and uneased
take caution
not to pierce the skin
of those around you
please
it’s not their fault
you’re out of sorts
so pause a moment
just breathe
Color flushes up
from collar bones
to slide along soft skin
of throat to eats
and tips pinken
as cheekbones
flush with pink hues
even as the color
continues to spread
to nape
all because you stare
so intently
that my heart flutters
wildly
