Starlight shines
on silken petals
to shimmer bright
in daylight’s
glimmer
as petals flutter
and open wide
to welcome
raindrop’s kisses
and as sun sinks
and moon rises
the flowers
shine on
still
The soul whispers
it’s wounds
like a raw ache
as cracks
turn into chasms
as confidence
dwindles
like starving weeds
on too-dry clay
and as the soul
cracks open wider
and fissures splinter
through the heart
he whispers still…
I love you
Soul opens slowly
to reveal the
deep red center
left raw and
hidden from sight
while life went on
now aching
is aired
for all to see
and trust steps in
as your hand
moves to cover
that spot
and shelter me
It’s not
panhandling,
but a nap I seek
and this piece
of cardboard
is merely
my blanket
from the cold
and shelter
from the sun
while I catch
a few Z’s
right here
on this spot.
My spot.
I long
to go back
to wetter times
where damp earth
permeates the air
with scents
of rich wet soil
and
decaying detritus
while lush green
fills the senses
with a feeling
that all is right
in the world
Fields brown
and green hues
are long gone
as cold
nips at every
vine tip
and branch
while the sun
sets glacial peaks
to glow
brilliant
and bright
against
blue skies
