Food Fortunes - The Lovers / The Dog card

Today’s draw is The Lovers card (The Dog), which is traditionally a representation of love and relationships, long term contracts, harmonious unions, and making choices that are geared toward what is best for you.

You know what? There are certain situations in life where a hotdog is the only thing that’ll do. I know, I know… Not healthy. Or, well, a mystery meat at best.

Sometimes, though, it’s easier and better to give into your craving than deny yourself. Because sometimes when those cravings happen, they happen for a reason that goes beyond just “ooh, that would taste good”.

Denying yourself in these moments can lead to grazing, binge eating, and other habits that come from feeling like you’re neglecting something in yourself.

The message in today’s Lovers card and the “transitional” prompt is a reminder that sometimes self-care is about treating yourself once in a while. As long as it’s once in a while and not all the time.

Everything doesn’t have to be so damn hard all the time. Ease your path forward by listening to your intuition more and allow it to choose your direction instead of always leaning into logic, reason, and strategy. By doing so, you allow yourself to “go with the flow” more instead of having to fight every step of the way forward.

The Numinous Tarot - Ten of Pentacles - Ten of Tomes

Today’s draw is the Ten of Pentacles (Tomes), which is traditionally a representation of satisfaction and stability in the area of one’s finances, resources, home, health, manifestations, and the physical world. This often translates into themes that have to do with hard earned success, accomplishments, abundance created through patience and hard work.

I love myself a good library. It’s full of so much potential and so many things that I don’t know, but that are right of my fingertips to find out.

For me, libraries are magical places, and books on paper are magical things. Don’t get me wrong, I think digital books and audiobooks have their place. For me that place is in the fiction category for audiobooks, and the deck guidebooks category for digital.

When it comes to actual research, non-fiction, and learning new things, though, it’s all about the print books. There is a tactile sensation to learning things in books that you cannot get through digital or audiobook. If I read a physical book on a subject, that tactile experience allows me to reference different parts of the book, depending on how many pages are on each side, where in a page something appears, and how many pages it feels like I’ve turned. This means that later on down the road (even years later) if I need to reference this material, my tactile memory will be able to help me find these particular sections and excerpts. Because of this, I can usually find what I’m looking for within seconds, or minutes at most.

In a digital book however, there is no tactile memory involved. If I need to go back later to find an excerpt or to reference a particular portion of the book, I have to guesstimate where in the book it was because there’s no tactile guidance to help me find it. This process then takes at least twice as long for me… and sometimes much longer. Especially if I cannot remember the exact wording of what I was looking for, so there’s no way to search it.

This is one of the many reasons that in my opinion, libraries represent a wealth that we cannot get through any other source. A wealth that is shared with others in our community. It can be enhanced by digital offerings, but it shouldn’t be replaced by them.

Today’s Ten of Pentacles card combined with the “threshold” prompt asks us to consider where in our life are we taking for granted a source of wealth in our lives, and why aren’t we stepping forward to take advantage of that opportunity?

When you do so all of the anxieties and “what if” thinking becomes much quieter and easier to deal with, instead of overwhelming you. Control isn’t the answer.

Stop hiding. Turning a blind eye and pretending something doesn’t bother you doesn’t make it go away. Nor will it solve the problem. Yes, now and then it will resolve itself. Unfortunately, more often than not all it does is allow things to grow and become worse before you have to deal with them, creating more work and stress for you in the end.

Accept that it’s okay to make mistakes and not have all the answers.

Let go of the concept that you need to be right all the time. You know that’s not true. A part of learning and growing is accepting that you don’t know everything, and accepting the challenge of seeking those answers.

❤️ Self Care Saturday (On a Sunday)

These Saturday readings are (not usually) bearing in on any one thing or event in my life, as the question used is asking for a more general outlook. This is a self care exercise, and is not meant as a predictive reading… although that, too, happens on occasion.

The question is… What do I need to focus for self-care through the week ahead?

EarthThree of Pentacles – Make sure you aren’t trying to deal with everything all on your own. Remember that just because others don’t do things the way that you do or it takes them longer to do it than it would you, doesn’t mean that it’s not helping… because you’re still not the one having to do those things.

AirQueen of Pentacles – Combat your pessimistic thoughts and negative inner narratives by leaning into those things that help to nurture a greater sense of stability in your life.

WaterFive of Pentacles – Remember that an upheaval in your emotions and experiencing uncertainty (as you often do during subdrop) have a tendency to exacerbate your feelings of scarcity. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the scarcity in your life has increased, only that it feels like it has.

FireFour of Hearts (Cups) – Skipping your meditation is not helping you in any way, shape, or form. Give yourself the self-love that you need right now by working on stepping back into the practice.

WaningKey and Moon – Although it’s often easy for you to say “I don’t know”, some people don’t take that well and try to bring you down in those moments. Rather than handing them the key to your emotions and how to influence them, allow your “I don’t know” to stand as a strength instead.

WaxingChild and Man – There is maturity in looking back at what has worked and what hasn’t, and learning from those experiences so that you don’t repeat them.

Take Away – You’re flirting with subdrop at the moment, and that makes all the bad things feel a little worse. Keep in mind that these are emotion driven sensations, not a shift of reality. Give yourself the loving kindness you need to find stability during this struggle, and invite others to help you in keeping up with your responsibilities.
