Shadowscapes Tarot - Ten of Pentacles

Today’s draw is the Ten of Pentacles, which is traditionally a representation of satisfaction and stability in the area of one’s finances, resources, home, health, manifestations, and the physical world. This often translates into themes that have to do with hard earned success, accomplishments, abundance created through patience and hard work.

Perfection is temporary. Okay, so perhaps perfection in itself is a myth, but we can all agree that times when everything is going our way and we can relish in our successes are few and fleeting.

If we consider treating these moments as liminal, maybe we could savor them just a little more deeply.

That is to say, even our mistakes and failures have the potential to be transitional doorways that lead to something better… if we open our minds to letting that be the case.

After all, with each mistake and failure we experience, we learn and grow… or at least that is the idea. That means that nothing, not even failure, is a waste as long as we learn from it in some way and carry those lessons forward with us.

The message in today’s Ten of Pentacles and “Liminal” prompt is a reminder that just because something doesn’t go how it’s planned doesn’t mean that it doesn’t hold value. Our mistakes and our failures have great potential to be doorways… thresholds through which we can gain value, as long as we’re open to doing so.

Tarot Reading with The Unofficial Shel Silverstein Tarot

A part of myself that’s been kept hidden

Ten of Wands – Just exactly how much shit you’re trying to deal with at once. You keep overfilling your plate and trying to pile more on as if you’ve got plenty of time and room for more. The fact is, though, that you don’t… and you’re not handling what you already have half as well as you appear to be to others.

Why has this part needed to hide?

Two of Swords – Part of the reason this issue comes about in the first place is because you often struggle to pick one option over another. Instead of buckling down and making a choice, you then try to take on both.

How does this hidden material influence me indirectly?

Two of Wands Rx – Being unable to be more selective in what you take on holds you back from the planning stage of those things that are a part of your responsibility. There’s just not enough time, and so it forces you to have to do things on the fly and hope for the best instead of having a well-made plan in place.

What does safe exploration of this part look like?

Ace of Wands Rx – A release of enthusiasm. You can’t “burn the candle at both ends” forever. The fact you can see the potential in so many different things, and become enthusiastic about that potential, means that you’re always going to struggle to choose. You need to acknowledge, though, that sometimes choosing is unavoidable or you’ll end up snuffing out the potential of both… or alternately burning out quickly in a flash fire.

Tarot Reading with the Shadowscapes Tarot

Reading Summary: Acting now (Eight of Wands) to take a better care of yourself and follow what truly matters to you (The Lovers) will help keep your emotional novicity (Page of Cups) from stealing the show (Seven of Swords).

Take Away: Yes, I made up a word (novicity). The condition of being a novice in something.

You are still new and lacking in skill when it comes to your emotions. This doesn’t have to be your focus, though. The problem lies in the fact that you focus so hard on your struggle in this that you aren’t allow room for enjoyment of life as a whole. Instead you’re too busy focusing on your failings and struggles.

You can experience far more pleasure in life if you allow yourself to love and care for yourself well rather than punishing yourself for your failings. Beating yourself up makes life worse, and does nothing to strengthen you or help you learn to do better.

Rainy Fields

Precious

More rain falls
with clouds
hanging heavy
sodden
and dripping
as people
gripe and groan
and I celebrate
every drop
as precious
because we are
just a bit closer
to no drought
when summer comes

🎨 Weekly Creativity Prompt – Alternate Endings

Prompt: Millie just broke up with her boyfriend and is on her own for the first time in her life.A friend she works with (Andrew) is also looking for a new place to live. Millie isn’t sure if it’s a good idea to become roommates with Andrew, or if she’d be better off on her own.
Out of the different three card readings shown below, which one provides the happiest result for Millie? Why do you say that?

Trash Panda Tarot - Knight of Wands, Ten of Swords, Nine of Wands

Trash Panda Tarot Knight of Wands, Ten of Swords, Nine of Wands

Enthusiasm (Knight of Wands) often leads us to not see the pitfalls that are coming until it’s too late (Ten of Swords), and we’re then left burned, wounded, and wary in the end (Nine of Wands).

This moving in with Andrew may seem like a good idea, especially if he’s hyping it up as some great adventure. The problem lies in the fact that you’re not looking at the pitfalls involved. What are the potential problems and issues, and what does that say about the outcome of this choice? Moving in this direction has a high probability of you getting burned in the end. The most likely result is that you’ll learn some unpleasant lessons, and come out the other end still standing but wounded and wary.

Reverse Scale Tarot - The Star, Strength, Two of Wands

Reverse Scale Tarot The Star, Strength, Two of Wands

Riding the hope involved in this move (The Star) isn’t necessarily a bad thing as long as you’re aware of the manipulations going on beneath the surface (Strength). Be prepared with a back up plan (Two of Wands).

As a short term solution to your problem, this move in with Andrew sounds pretty solid. Just be aware that Andrew appears to be a bit manipulative, using cheer and hope to lift you up and also get you to see things his way. Make sure you have a back up plan in place for when it’s time to move on, so that you’re ready for when reality comes calling.

Forest Spirit Imprint Tarot - Five of Swords, Eight of Swords, Seven of Swords

Forest Spirit Imprint Tarot Five of Swords, Eight of Swords, Seven of Swords

You’re going to come out of this endeavor with less than you went in with (Seven of Swords). Moving in with Andrew has the potential to bring with it lots of conflict (Five of Swords), of which you will try to ignore the best you can until it becomes too much for you to handle (Eight of Swords).

This particular grouping of cards looks like an abusive relationship. I’m not sure there’s anything redeeming or positive here for you to hope for in moving in with Andrew. He may seem nice on the surface, and maybe he really is, but it does not appear he’s going to make a very good roommate for Millie. On the contrary, it appears like an abusive cycle where she’s going to end up cheated in the end, and perhaps of more than just her possessions if that Eight of Swords has anything to say about it.

Summary :

In all three of these readings, the central card is one that indicates something is being hidden or remains unseen that needs to be acknowledged. This tells me that no matter which interpretation we go with, there’s a problem that’s not being seen. Out of these three readings, if she goes along with moving in with Andrew, the best result for Millie is the second reading… that said? All three of these are telling her that she shouldn’t be moving in with him at all.
